India and the EU are intensifying efforts to finalize a landmark Free Trade Agreement (FTA). The 13th round of negotiations kicks off this week in New Delhi, with the 14th scheduled in Brussels for October.
The EU will unveil its strategic vision for ties with India on September 17, reinforcing plans to seal the deal by December 2025.

European Commission Trade Chief Maros Šefčovič is set to visit New Delhi from September 11, signaling rapid progress overcoming an eight-year halt in talks.
Indian officials, including EAM S. Jaishankar, are similarly pushing for a decisive conclusion and enhancing cooperation, especially in green hydrogen.

3. Trade Figures & Deal Scope

While no finalized agreement exists yet, India–EU bilateral trade reached approximately $135 billion in goods in FY 2023–24, making this potential FTA the largest in India’s history upon completion.
Previous rounds have already closed half of the negotiating chapters, including customs and IP, with more complex areas like rules of origin, tariffs on cars and dairy, and environmental standards still in discussion.
